In Memory of My Friend & Co-Founder
In today's competitive world it is easy to get caught up in our careers or our project. It is important to keep a sense of prospective. It is nice to raise high in your career but all the money in the world is not going to fill that empty feeling when you didn't take a moment to check on a friend. Appreciating friends is something we all should make time for.
February 4 1948 - January 14, 2012
I first meet Willie Wilson in April 1994 he was a part of the interviewing panel when I was applying for a position at the Virginia Employment Commission. We bonded immediately, being the type of person that did not gossip or take sides, he gave everyone the benefit of the doubt prior to reaching his decision, he never jumped to conclusions without the facts. No matter who you were he had a way of making you feel special.
As Vietnam Veterans we share war stories that the civilians could never imagine. The thoughts of my fishing buddy, reminiscing about Norfolk state football and the Norfolk Tides will always be with me just as the memories will remain with his grandchildren of their vacations in Williamsburg. We shared dialysis stories for five (5) years but never did I hear him compliant after all that he has gone through. Willie Wilson was a faith believer, a very intelligent man who lead by example; he always talked about his love for his wife Loretta, his grandchildren and how proud he was of his son even though he went in the Navy. (Willie was an Army veteran).
CKD has been on the rise for the past four years and 40% of individuals with Kidney disease have not been diagnosed. Once Willie and I learned CKD was preventable; we decided to educate and train Hampton Roads residents on Kidney disease prevention. On January 28, 2012, I hosted what would have been Willie and my first Kidney Awareness event that we had worked very hard to put together. It became the first event at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel in the memory of my friend Willie-Wilson.
I kept my promise with Willie Health & Awareness is now official a 501c3. Future plans are to provide stress evaluation for those in shock from the idea that dialysis or a Kidney transplant is necessary for survival.
Willie Wilson, I know you're in a wonderful place where the angels, no more suffering & peace surrounds you. You're an angel now watching over Loretta & those who loved you. I am honor to had you as a friend and only too glad that you are at peace now, with no more earthly worries and we will see you when it is our time. Until then, you are always in our heart, mind and soul. We will talk of you, think of you often and keep you in our hearts. We miss your laugh & smart remarks & most of all, we miss your friendship.
